I am the Chairman of the Deacon Board as we as in charge of the church in the absent of a Pastor. About 4 months ago the church voted in an interim pastor. I believe he is who GOD has sent to us being we have had several church prayer meeting for this purpose. He is doing very well and the church seem to be growing and moving in the right direction. He preaches from the Old Testiment and some of our official have taken offense to some of the time he preach about such as weak leadership in the church and and where the Trustee’s stand in according to GOD’s Holly Word. The congreagation seem to be very happy with him and not there is a recommedation from the official board to terminate his contract and there is also a motion from on the floor to make him the pastor. How do I handle this. For to me this battle in not mind its the Lord. What do I do about the motion. Keep in mind also we just elected a Pastoral Search Team.

If a motion was made and seconded and voted on and was passed and then someone wants to table it that legal? Also can anyone call an emergency business meeting for any reason? One more thing can you tell me if you want to stop a vote can you blackball it?

Tina–I’m trying to get back to reading my own blog. Thanks for writing.

There isn’t a different church-edition. Most church bodies cite Robert’s Rules without reference to editions. It is understood that the latest edition is the authoritative one.

Is there a Roberts rules just for churches?

Does a church have the right to re-write the Secretary minutes of an annual meeting and type her name in the report and try to pull it off as her work. They also left out a big portion of what happened at that meeting.

I have a question. If a vote is taken, counted, and announced, then 2 additional votes “”"are found”"” afterwards that change the outcome, can these votes be counted or does a new vote need to take place?

Today I sat as a delegate at a political District Convention and observed disorganized (hopefully, if it was organized – I quit) chaos, though we eventually got the job done. I have also sat through a Diocesan Convention, where the the control by the Chair was tighter than a ????? wallet, aligned with a created cohort of Lay and Ordained cohorts. Frankly , the chaos was more fun, but took a lot longer. Both have left a sour taste.

How does one become a “Registered Parlimentarian’ and maintain a dispassioned support of the minority.

Lynn–I happened to drop by my neglected blog. Roberts’ Rules would ask whether the congregation has Bylaws that define who presides at governing meetings. Usually a pastor would cherish that opportunity to lead and if there are no Bylaws to the contrary, he or she would be assumed to be the presider.

Any presiding officer has the right to break a tie, but most of us have learned the wisdom of not going forward on the basis of a tied or close vote. Allow more time for movement one way or the other.

There is no set number for a committee. It depends on the task and the people available in the general pool of the organization.

Does Robert’s consider a pastor a president?
If so, and that pastor is recognized as an ex-officio of a committee, not standing, does he have the right to break a tie.
Does Robert’s speak to the number on a committee?This committee did not have an uneven number (I let that slip by).
